In the interview we explore this model as a means of freeing your attention and liberating yourself from stuck habit patterns.

"Attention is the leading resource of all ingenuity, innovation, entrepreneurship, making money, love...it's the one resource that leads everything we want in life. Until you consciously examine what authentically is sufficiency for you in each domain, you are wasting your attention chasing things that are either unfulfillable or are things you should be preventing because you get them too low."
Nathan Otto, Spiritual Guide, CEO of Holometrics, Author of Evolutionary Leadership

SPECIAL GUEST: RECODE WEEK 2 - RECODE YOUR THOUGHTS Loving The UnLovable Within. In this interview we talk to Michael about the other side of transformation - the unconditional side where we are not seeking to change or subvert our shadow sides but are in full acceptance learning to add the only ingredient that can truly pull us out of our negative thought patterns...which is love. We dive deeply into our propensity to avoid the shadow and he walks us through some powerful guided visualizations and meditations. Here is his bio:
I am the author of The Education of Millionaires: It’s Not What You Think, and It’s Not Too Late, published by Penguin/Portfolio, and The Power of Eye Contact: Your Secret For Success in Business, Love and Life, from HarperCollins. I also write a blog on entrepreneurialism, career development, and education at Forbes.com.
I wrote an op-ed for the New York Times, Will Dropouts Save America?, which reached #6 “Most Emailed” on the site, as well as a guest post on Tim Ferriss’s blog, titled 8 Steps to Getting What You Want… Without Formal Credentials.
(Aside from The Education of Millionaires, what do I think is my best writing ever? My Forbes pieces How I Overcame Bipolar II—And Saved My Own Life and The Paradoxical Secret of Obsession-Worthy Branding, and my manifesto What Does It Mean That Your Life is Perfect?)
I’ve spoken at the Googleplex for the Authors@Google series, at Dartmouth College, at the World Technology Summit & Awards, at the Thiel Fellows Retreat, at TEDxSF, and at the Commonwealth Club of California.
I grew up in an activist household, the son of Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg, and Patricia Ellsberg—subjects of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers. (I appear in one still shot at the end of the doco, a babe in my father’s arms as he speaks to an antiwar rally in the 70s.) I oversee my father’s website, Twitter, and Facebook page. (They like the book, although they don’t agree with all of it 🙂
The Education of Millionaires is a bootstrapper’s guide to investing in your own human capital. I interviewed some of the most successful people on the planet who didn’t complete college and who educated themselves in the real world, to deconstruct their secrets and create a “Syllabus for a Successful Life” based on what I learned from them.
The book features interviews with self-educated billionaires Phillip Ruffin and John Paul DeJoria, Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz and founding president Sean Parker, WordPress creator Matt Mullenweg, fashion designer Marc Ecko, Pink Floyd lead guitarist David Gilmour, and marketing experts Eben Pagan, Frank Kern and Joe Polish. It also features the insights of experts including Seth Godin, “Rich Dad” Robert Kiyosaki, and PayPal co-founder and Facebook angel investor, billionaire Peter Thiel.
I was born in San Francisco in 1977, grew up in Berkeley, and graduated from Brown University in 1999.
Look for his upcoming book co-authored with our very own Bryan Franklin coming out in 2015 called "You Are The Best Investment" (Penguin 2015).

"If you start with a need to transform that unlovable piece you are just going to be caught re-shaming it. The beginning of transformation has to be an acceptance of that part. Once you stop the need to transform it, pushing it, poking it, telling it it's wrong, that is actually when the transformation of your whole self begins."

Lee Franklin
Executive Coach, Former VP of Marketing and Sales of Sprint, President AirTouch, Harvard Graduate
SPECIAL GUEST: RECODE MODULE 9 - Recode Your Leadership, Part I. We invited Lee Franklin to the Recode Program to talk about Leadership and the role of the Delegator. In this interview Lee, former president of Airtouch, Senior VP at Sprint, and successful founder of a fiberoptic network. Lee teaches the 9 critical steps of successful delegating, which he describes as “The most commonly talked about, probably the most critical, and the least well-understood leadership skill.”
Here is his bio:
Before becoming a coach, Lee Franklin had four distinct careers - two entrepreneurial and two corporate. During the 70s, he co-founded a public policy consulting firm in Washington, D.C. that still enjoys a national reputation as a most highly regarded firm in its field. Since then Lee was Vice President, Marketing and Sales at Sprint Communications, and more recently was president of a division of AirTouch Communications, which was acquired by Vodafone and is now part of Verizon. During the second half of the 80s, Lee designed, financed, constructed, operated and then sold an independent fiber optic telecom network, through a partnership developed with General Electric Credit Corp.
Lee has been president four times and CEO once, he has served on boards and reported to a board. He's a graduate of Williams College and Harvard Business School.
What Lee Says about his Work
"I've been an executive coach since 1995."
"For me, coaching is a deep commitment to the growth and accomplishments of client managers and leaders. The impact of coaching shows up in increased effectiveness with subordinates, with peers and with those to whom they report. Clients become clearer about what they want to accomplish, and they learn to get it with less struggle."
"Their relationships get stronger and their results improve markedly. I coach from a body of ideas about personal and organizational effectiveness brought together over the past fifteen years at the California Leadership Center. These ideas are boiled down to a powerful and coherent (yet simple) set of principles and practices that we share through an experiential learning model. From it, clients get insights and we work together to apply them. Clients are intrigued with the additional leverage they get across their lives."
"For clients with more deeply held limiting beliefs about themselves and their worlds, we have more powerful tools for helping them to change their minds. For example, I'm a certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)."
"I meet with my clients, usually once every two weeks for up to two hours. Sometimes it's helpful for me to sit in on staff or other meetings to observe my client being active in key relationships. Occasionally, clients ask me to facilitate team development sessions, results acceleration project teams, and problem relationship resolutions."
To find out more about Lee Franklin:
" The goal of delegation is to divide up and assign work in a way that leaves us confident the work will be done on time, on budget, and in a way that’s acceptable to us. We can delegate authority. We cannot delegate responsibility. If the completed work is not acceptable, ultimate responsibility remains with the delegator. Effective delegation sets up complete agreement, between delegator and delegate, about the work to be done. When the agreement is in place, it is unnecessary (and annoying and inappropriate) for the delegator to hover over the delegate while s/he works."
Lee Franklin, California Leadership Center
